Lin-wood, you have told us to embrace our creativity and to be our own person. Why is it that on the day we are celebrating completing 13 years at Lin-Wood, you force everyone to look the same? On graduation night, graduates are given 3 options to try and be creative: a red cap and gown, a black cap and gown or a white cap and gown. Last years seniors tried be creative, but they just looked sloppy with their mismatched caps and gown. Our proposal: this senior class wishes to be themselves at graduation. We are not asking for much, just a little design on the top of our caps. The design is not visible from the front so uniform pictures can still be taken. Decorating caps and gowns allows seniors to be creative and to try and think outside the box. This may be just expressing their love for the mountains by having a landscape of snowy peaks, or writing their name in glitter and gold. It could involve humor or an inspirational quote; the college that they will be attending in the upcoming year. Plymouth Regional High School has already got the ball rolling with this by allowing last years seniors to decorate caps. The art displayed on the graduation caps taught the teachers more about the students. Students should be allowed to show their creativity and personality at graduation; to show their hard work and patience throughout their 13 years of school. This is not an issue of freedom of speech, it is an issue of freedom of creativity. Please allow the class of 2016 to decorate our caps! I know what you are thinking, what if someone does something inappropriate. Trust me, we realize that this is a privilege and not a right. As 17 and 18 years olds about to embark on the world the school should have faith that the seniors will be respectful with our designs.
