Settled between piles of books waiting to be read in Ms. Whitcher’s room, Tim Holden sat leisurely on a desk. He has been attending Lin-Wood for the past 13 years and is concluding his Lin-Wood journey in 2016. With his usual calm exterior, this high school senior kindly answered my questions.
What do you plan to do after college?"I plan to go to college to go become a History Teacher. I really enjoy history and have always had an aspiration to become a teacher since 2nd grade."
Do you plan on moving away?"I want to stay in the New England area. ... It’s just home. Of course I plan to explore other areas, but I plan on sticking around."
What are some things you’ve enjoyed about your time here at Lin-Wood? |
"I really enjoyed getting to make some great friends that I feel will last a lifetime. It’s a small community, and it’s very supportive."
What are some regrets you have?
"Plenty. All pretty much academic, I wish I was a little more driven to do my school work and had my GPA reflect what I’m capable of. I wouldn’t be so nervous about applying to college."
How could you have been more involved?"I could’ve been a lot more involved in the community. It wasn't until just recently I became involved in the community. I’ve done some small things like helping out at the food pantry and helping with the Kanc Rec. Basketball"
What was your favorite class here at Lin-Wood?"That one’s a hard one, but the one that sticks out the most...I would say is High School chorus, and there I get to do what I love and sing."

Was there any class or program you wish Lin-Wood offered?
I don’t know. I was pretty satisfied with what Lin-Wood had. ... I got what I wanted out of high school.
What is your success story?
Hmm... success story... would be probably I would have to say last year academically when my grades started reflecting what I’m capable of. It was pretty nice seeing A’s and B’s instead of C’s and D’s. Definitely college was the biggest thing. After my sophomore year, failing government, it was like a slap in the face. I kind of went for the heavier course load this year to prove that I’m capable.
What will you miss when you leave home or just leave Lin-Wood?
I’m probably going to miss the close knitted community the most because .... you don’t often stumble on a place like this.
Do you have any advice for Devon?
Yeah, I’d say, it’s good that he has aspirations for basketballs and stuff, but it’s time to move one. Time to be academically strong. IF he had the drive, he’d be able to go far--and I don’t mean driving a car either.
